“Thelonious Monk at 100: Celebrating the High Priest of Bebop”

Musical revolutionary and cultural iconoclast, Thelonious Monk was one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. Join Robin D.G. Kelley, author of Thelonious Monk: The Life and Times of an American Original, and Justin Desmangles, host of the radio program New Day Jazz, for a centenary celebration discussing the jazz legend. This event is free and open to the public.

Robin D. G. Kelley is Chair of the Department of African American Studies and Gary B. Nash Endowed Chair in U.S. History at the University of California, Los Angeles.

Justin Desmangles is Chair of the Before Columbus Foundation, administrator of the American Book Award, and host of the radio program New Day Jazz, now in its 15th year.
